Tau Omega Charitable Trust Fund
Tau Omega Charitable Trust Fund has the distinction of being the first 501(c)(3) organization in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority created the entity in 1968 to support its scholarship program. The scholarship program has been in continuous existence since the beginning and was recently enhanced to include named endowed scholarships. In addition, The Charitable Trust funds service projects in the Harlem community, as well as supports local community-based organizations.
A program of Scholarship, Service, and Support, under the leadership of a fourteen member Board of Trustees, fulfills the non-profit’s mission to:
- Receive and disburse funds to support the endeavors of community-based organizations;
- encourage the growth of young people through mentoring and financial support of their educational endeavors with the award of scholarships; and
- receive cash, property, and securities by way of gift, bequest, or devise from any person, firm, trust, or corporation to be held, administered, and disposed of in accordance with the purposes of the Corporation.

West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC)
WHDC was born from the need to implement the deliverables and expectations of the May 18, 2009 Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) between Columbia University and West Harlem Local Development Corporation. WHDC functions with the vision of building collaborations and leveraging resources to enhance the lives of the residents of West Harlem beyond the term of the CBA.
Since 2011 and through 2019, WHDC has funded 177 nonprofits for $11.5 million to serve West Harlem/Manhattan Community District 9 (MCD9) residents with services in education, housing, workforce development, arts & culture, and more.
